Construction Training Grants & Funding | Site Skills Knowhow

Investing in training doesn’t have to be costly. Many construction employers and workers in the UK can claim grants and funding to cover part or all of the cost of industry-approved training and qualifications. Below is a simple guide on how funding works and how you may be able to access support for courses like SMSTS, SSSTS, surveying, setting-out and other construction skills training. citb.co.uk

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for CITB grants and funding:

  • You (or your employer) must be registered with CITB

  • Training must be completed with a CITB-approved training provider on the Training Provider and Employer Network as we are.

  • These grants primarily support employers covering training costs for their workforce. citb.co.uk

Types of Grants Available

1. Short Course Grants

CITB provides grants for short training courses that last from a minimum of 3 hours up to 29 days. These include many essential safety and site-based training courses offered by Approved Training Organisations. citb.co.uk

  • Specialist practical skills courses

2. Qualification Grants

Grants are also paid for approved qualifications, such as NVQs, diplomas, Pro qual and other construction-related certifications that help develop deeper skills. Some qualifications (like management or supervisory awards) attract different grant levels. citb.co.uk+1

3. Other Funding Routes

Beyond achievement grants, CITB also offers additional funding and support schemes:
✔ Project-based funds & employer networks for tailored training support
✔ Funds for leadership and management training for larger employers
✔ Funding that may help reduce upfront costs or support strategic workforce development citb.co.uk

Note: Funding schemes can change from year to year, so it’s always worth checking the latest details on the CITB website or speaking with your CITB adviser. citb.co.uk
